Interviews are something that nobody really looks forward to, but which at the same point are completely necessary. With this in mind it is understandably a good idea to get a handle on interviews, so that you can always show your best side off.
It is totally natural to be nervous, but don’t let your nerves get the better of you. Anyone can learn how to give a good interview, and even if you don’t ultimately receive a job offer, at the very least it’s good practice!
Research the role and the company
Since you’ve already submitted a successful application for the interview stage, chances are that you have a pretty good idea about what it is going to entail. In this case then it is time to get a greater view into the company that you’re applying for. Usually in interviews, the role will be briefly run over anyway, but it is definitely a good thing to be prepared and ready to learn more.
Think about questions you might like to ask
Generally, at the end of an interview, the interviewer will ask if there are any questions that you want to ask, and it is a good idea to think of one or two beforehand that might come up. (Although after the stress of an interview, many of us are itching to get out of the seat!) If they’ve already been answered during the course of the interview, then simply ask if you can send an email if any do occur to you later.
Do a mock interview
Employ a friend, partner, or family member to help you do a mock interview. This is a great way to get your answers sounding smooth and proficient, and can also help you to soothe your nerves. Run it through several times, but don’t let your answers begin to sound glib – you want your natural self to shine through after all.
